Are you on the hunt for a new vacuum cleaner, and you find it tough to narrow down your choices? That’s a common problem, so don’t worry. In this post, there are two popular Shark models I think you want to explore: the Shark ZU62 vs ZU55. How are they different? To ensure you choose the best vacuum for your needs, read my review below.

The Shark ZU55 is a powerful vacuum cleaner featuring swivel steering to make it easier to move around your home. It has a similar level of suction power as the ZU62 that can handle different tasks of cleaning. This product’s remarkable feature is how it cleans the pet hair and handles different types of debris.

The Shark ZU62 boasts a powerful suction that can handle pet hair, fine dust, and large debris on carpeted floors. With its anti-allergen seal, it can effectively capture and trap dust and allergens. However, it still falls short of maneuverability due to its limited design. I will explain this problem in more detail in the following sections.

Shark ZU62 Vs ZU55: Differences

As can be seen, Shark ZU62 and ZU55 have many similarities, and both offer excellent cleaning performance. Therefore, it is hard for me to choose one as the winner. However, Shark ZU55 is superior thanks to its convenient capacity to move around with the final score of 1-0 and ties twice.

Cleaning performance

Tie!

Suction power

Shark ZU62: Brush roll
Shark ZU62: Brush roll

When it comes to suction power, both the Shark ZU62 and the Shark ZU55 are very similar. Both vacuums feature powerful suction power, making them ideal for deep cleaning carpets and hard floors. The ZU62 has a slightly higher suction power than the ZU55, but not by much. In fact, you won’t notice much of a difference between the two models. Both vacuums also have the same advanced cyclonic technology, which helps to maintain suction power over time.

Brush-roll system and pet hair performance

The Shark ZU55 self-cleaning is a feature that aims to prevent hair wrap on the vacuum cleaner’s brush roll. Hair wrap is a common problem that reduces the efficiency and lifespan of the brush roll and requires manual cleaning. The self-cleaning feature of this product has a rubberized surface that prevents hair from getting wrapped around the bristles and instead directs it to the dust cup. This way, the brush roll stays clean and maintains its suction power.

However, the self-cleaning brush roll of Shark ZU55 is not as advanced or remarkably effective as the Zero-M technology of Shark ZU62. The Zero-M technology is a patented feature that uses a comb-like device attached to the brush roll, which actively removes hair from the bristles as you vacuum. This means you don’t have to rely on the rubberized surface alone, which may not catch all the hair, especially long or fine strands.

Compatible floor type

In particular, the Shark ZU62 excels at deep cleaning bare floors and hard floors, such as tile, laminate, or hardwood. It sucks up most debris and dirt in its path with ease, thanks to its strong suction and Zero-M technology that prevents hair wrap on the brush roll. It leaves these smooth floors impressively clean and spotless, making me feel proud of my home.

However, larger bits of debris like cereal pieces or pet kibble may require a second pass or manual cleanup, as they tend to get pushed around by the vacuum head. This can be frustrating and time-consuming, especially if you have kids or pets who make a lot of mess.

On the other hand, the Shark ZU55 is unmatched at tackling all floor types and sizes of debris in a single pass. Its powerful suction and self-cleaning brush roll lift even the most stubborn dirt and larger particles from carpets and bare floors. It can handle anything from fine dust to chunky crumbs without any problem.

It also transitions smoothly from one-floor type to another without losing suction or requiring adjustments. This makes cleaning a breeze and a joy, as I don’t have to worry about switching tools or missing any spots.

Design & Convenience

The winner: Shark ZU55

When it comes to choosing an upright vacuum, I have to consider the size of the dirt tank or dust bin. A larger bin means I don’t have to stop frequently vacuuming to empty it out, saving time and allowing me to complete the task more efficiently. Fortunately, both products don’t disappoint me. With its large-size dirt bin (2.8 quartz), time spent on unnecessary things can be cut down.

On another aspect – maneuverability, I have to say that the ZU55 has superior performance overall compared to the ZU62. The ZU62 is actually a bit challenging to push and pull across various floor surfaces, especially carpets, due to its tiny wheels and significant drag. In addition, it requires a lot of effort to move it between rooms, which can be tiresome.

In contrast, the Shark ZU55 glides smoothly across all floor types, including carpets, hardwood, and linoleum. In addition, its wheels are well-designed to minimize drag and resistance, allowing for easy steering and navigation.

Utility

Shark ZU55: Onboard storage
Shark ZU55: Onboard storage

Tie!

In terms of included accessories, the ZU62 vacuum model comes equipped with three useful tools: a crevice tool for cleaning tight spaces, an upholstery tool for vacuuming furniture, and a dusting brush for gently cleaning delicate surfaces.

However, the ZU62 only provides onboard storage space for two of these attachments, forcing users to find an alternative storage solution for the third accessory tool. This can prove inconvenient for those who want all their vacuum tools in one place.

On the other hand, the ZU55 model only includes two basic attachments: a pet power brush tool designed for picking up pet hair and a standard crevice tool. While the ZU55 does have enough storage space for its two included tools, its accessory holder is poorly designed. The pet power brush, in particular, does not stay securely in place, and over time, the constant instability and rattling can cause the brush to crack under pressure.

Shark ZU62 Vs ZU55: Similarities

When we consider drawing comparisons between the Shark ZU62 and ZU55 vacuum cleaners, it becomes apparent that a few striking similarities exist between these two cleaning devices. So now, let’s find out together!

HEPA filter

The Shark ZU62 and ZU55 upright vacuum models come equipped with HEPA filtration, which is a great benefit. The HEPA filter helps these vacuums achieve a high level of filtration, capturing 99.97% of airborne particles, including dust, allergens, and bacteria. This is especially useful for those with allergies or asthma, as it helps improve indoor air quality and prevents these particles from recirculating in the air.

With this filtration, these models are able to thoroughly clean your floors while also freshening the air in your home.

Suction control slider

Both the Shark ZU62 and ZU55 upright vacuum models feature a suction control slider. This slider allows users to adjust the vacuum’s suction power for optimal performance on different floor types. For bare floors and hard floors, the suction can be increased to pick up more debris in a single pass. On carpets, the suction should be decreased to prevent damage to the flooring.
