If you are wondering which machine to choose between Kenmore BU4018 vs BU4022, you can refer to this comparison. Here are my personal opinions after testing both machines. For a quick answer, the winner is Kenmore BU4022.
Honestly, the BU4018 is a great bagged upright vacuum cleaner. It has amazing suction power, a true HEPA filter, a compact design, and flexible control. This is a good choice if you are looking for a vacuum cleaner for your small apartment.
The BU4022 wins this time thanks to the added details compared to its brothers. In addition to the same features as the BU4018, this machine seems to operate more smoothly and offers more accessories, such as 6 dust bags and a Pet Handimate turbo brush.

Kenmore BU4018 vs BU4022: Differences
After experiencing both machines, I conclude Kenmore BU4022 wins 2:0 and ties 2 against Kenmore BU4018. Although they possess many similarities, in general, each machine still has its own advantages and disadvantages. Read the analysis below for more details.
cleaning performance

Compatible Floor Type
Kenmore BU4018 and Kenmore BU4022 perform well on various surfaces, such as hard floors and carpets. They easily sweep dirt and small debris like cereal and rice from bare floors. As for large debris the size of Froot Loops, their main nozzle is almost impossible to vacuum, requiring the help of wands.
The duo comes with the brush roll on and off feature, which is normally turned on for deep cleaning carpets and off for gentle cleaning on hard floors. In fact, many other vacuums on the market in this price range do not have this feature, which is quite inconvenient. When vacuuming on hard floors, being unable to turn off the brush roll will cause dirt to be scattered around before being sucked into the machine, making the floor more susceptible to scratches. As for these two machines, you will not encounter such situations, and turning off the brush roller is just a click of a button.
As for carpet cleaning performance, both of them do a great job of cleaning low-pile and high-pile carpets, and they suck up pet hair and sand quite easily. Although there is no manual height adjustment button like on many other machines that I have reviewed before, they still work quite smoothly on thick carpets without much struggle. However, there is a small minus point in that there is no way to remove the brush roller and clean it easily. This is not good for people with long hair because cleaning up tangles that get stuck on the roller brush takes a lot of time.
Suction Power
Both machines have quite strong suction compared to many other vacuum cleaners at the same price. The few examples of their cleaning performance on hard floors and carpets that I mentioned above probably gave you some insight into their amazing suction power.
When comparing the suction power between the two machines, I did not find many differences. Specifically, on both machines, the airflow measured at the hose is around 87 CFM and at the head is around 72 CFM. In fact, the suction power of the vacuum cleaners in the Kenmore Intuition Bagged Upright Vacuum series is similar.
Dirt bin and filtration
The winner: Kenmore BU4022
Dirt bin
These machines have excellent dust compartments. Although it is a bag, it is quite spacious, with a dust collection capacity of about 3.1 liters, so you do not need to replace the bag too often. Users rely on the color of the indicator light to identify when the dirt bag has reached its maximum capacity.
When the bag is full, simply press the opening latch of the bag compartment door, then press the bag release button, and the dust bag will automatically fall out. Make sure you do these operations right above the trash can to prevent dust from splattering around. Compared with bagless machines, these bagged vacuums are convenient in that you don’t need to touch the dust cup or bag, don’t need to clean the dust container, and the spilled dirt doesn’t stick to clothes. However, the downside of these bags is that you need to buy replacements after a long time of use.
Kenmore BU4022 comes with 6 dirtbags, while Kenmore BU4018 comes with 4 bags. The more bags included, the more beneficial it is for the user because it will reduce the cost of buying additional replacement bags outside.
Filtration
In terms of the filtration system, both machines use HEPA filters. Their systems include a pre-motor foam filter and a post-motor HEPA filter.
The pre-motor filter is located in the bag compartment and can be removed after removing the filter cover. This filter is washable, and you can wash it under running water if necessary. If you prefer, you can use cold or warm water in the soap. Note that after cleaning the filter, you must let it dry for at least 24 hours before using it again.
The second filter is located near the front of the machine, behind the chrome filter cover. This is a HEPA standard filter with the ability to remove up to 99.97% of dirt, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any type of airborne particle with a size of 0.3 microns (µm). This is extremely beneficial to people suffering from asthma, allergies, or breathing difficulties.
design and convenience
The winner: Kenmore BU4022
Build Quality
In my personal opinion, the build quality of these machines is decent. They’re mostly made of plastic, and overall they feel pretty solid. What I like about both machines is that they are very easy to assemble. You won’t need screws or any tools, and they even come with a pre-installed bag. Their components just need to be put together visually.
Maneuverability
Overall, both machines are fairly easy to maneuver.
Firstly, they have a lightweight design. They have equal weight, and I really do like how lightweight they are. Their size is relatively small and suitable for the space of my house. They roll well on uneven surfaces, and their swivel head works very smoothly when entering small and narrow places like under beds and furniture.
Besides, the lift-up feature and onboard tool storage increase the machine’s maneuverability. Thanks to that, cleaning my stairs also became much easier than before.
In addition, with a power cord length of 30 feet, you can comfortably use these machines to clean back and forth in a large room without changing the outlet. Large dirt bag helps you not need to run around to empty the trash like bagless upright vacuums.
Noise Level
The noise levels of these machines are similar, and the maximum noise level fluctuates at 78 dB. In terms of the vacuum’s noise level, this is a bit above average. It’s not so loud that you have to raise your voice to be able to vacuum and talk at the same time. Given their price, I find such noise levels to be acceptable.
Accessories
Each machine comes with a number of accessories with separate functions. For example, the hard bristle brush is used to deal with stubborn debris. The 3-in-1 combo tool serves as an all-in-one upholstery cleaner, crevice tool, and dusting brush for gentle surfaces. The Upholstery Tool is used to clean upholstered furniture such as sofas, cushions, etc. In addition to the same accessories as the Kenmore BU4018, the BU4022 is equipped with a Pet HandiMate turbo brush to remove trapped fur on the fabric surface.
great for Value
Tie
In terms of price, they are quite affordable, and Kenmore BU4018 is about $20 cheaper than Kenmore BU4022.
With the BU4018, you get what you pay for. It possesses excellent suction power, a compact design, and flexibly moves on a variety of surfaces. Besides, the standard HEPA filter system is also a big plus for this machine.
The BU4022 generally has the same structure and features as its opponent. But besides that, it also added small details such as more dirtbags or included the Pet Handimate tool.
