When comparing the Kenmore DU5902 vs DU2012, I see that the DU5092 is like the upgrade of the DU2012 models, but in general, they are quite similar to each other. They have the same cord length, same dirt bin capacity and filtration, and all have LED headlights,
The Kenmore DU5092 has good suction performance with lift-up technology for better cleaning convenience. For me, using the DU5092 Kenmore vacuum will require less maintenance for the brush roll as this model features a Hair Eliminator Brusroll for reducing the amount of hair wrap on the brush roller. This feature makes the Kenmore DU5092 very useful for pet owners.
The Kenmore DU2012 is a good vacuum that can meet basic and light-duty cleaning requirements. It features adjustable suction and on/off brushroll switches and LED headlights like the Kenmore DU5092. However, it does not have the hair-eliminator brush roller and the lift-up canister for easy cleaning above floors. For that reason, the Kenmore DU2021 is cheaper. If you don’t require much or just want to buy an additional vac to support your central vacuum, this Kenmore DU2012 is a good option to consider.

Kenmore DU5092 vs DU2012: Differences
In terms of the differences between the Kenmore DU5092 vs DU2012, the Kenmore DU5092 wins 1-0 against the Kenmore DU2012 due to its better design and convenience. For the cleaning performance, I give them a tie because they have good suction power and are compatible with multiple floor surfaces.
Cleaning performance
Tie!
Suction strength and control
Between Kenmore DU5092 vs DU2012 suction power, I evaluated that they all have good suction strength. They are operated with 2 motors, allowing the machine to create more suction for better pick-up efficiency. On both carpets and hard floors, they can pick up fine to large-size debris particles when used with the appropriate modes. Besides, they offer manual control over their suction power for you, which is helpful for cleaning surfaces that need delicate suction.
Brushroll system
Both Kenmore DU5092 and DU2012 have a surface switching option that allows me to turn off the brushroll. When switching the machine to the hard floor mode, the brush roll will stop spinning, which is beneficial for vacuuming on non-carpeted floor surfaces as the brush roller will not scatter the debris behind.
However, the Hair Eliminator Brushroll is an upgraded feature on the Kenmore DU5092, making its cleaning performance a bit better than that of its rival. This type of brush roll will simplify brush maintenance and reduce the risk of clogging up by hair wrap, improving the pick-up performance of the vacuum cleaner.
The brand claims this Hair Eliminator Brushroll will help “keep the hair off your brushroll.” After testing vacuuming my carpet embedded with long and short hairs of my dog and cat, I see that this type of brushroll system does reduce the hair wrapping on the roller. Yet, the long hair is still on the brush roll, not completely eliminated into the dirt tank.
If you have pets, I think choosing a vacuum featuring an anti-wrap brush roll is useful as it requires low maintenance. So, the Kenmore DU5092 is an adequate option for you, though I consider its brushroll not as excellent as those on the higher-price Shark and Dyson vacuums.
Floor type compatibility
They do a good job of cleaning on both carpeted and non-carpeted surfaces. In other words, they can help you clean carpets, rugs, hard/bare floors, crevices, and above-floor surfaces.
Both of them have strong suction power and adjustable brush roll and suction, providing ease for transition between different floor types. Overall, Kenmore DU5092 and DU2012 both have decent cleaning performance that meets all my requirements, including picking up sand and pet hair.
When testing both DU5092 and DU2012 models of Kenmore vacuums, I see that they can suck in fine to medium debris particles on carpets and hard floors with one forward pass and one backward pass. For larger particles, they cannot pick up in one or two passes. The front of their cleaning head pushes the particles because these two models do not have the adjustable-height cleaning nozzle.
Besides, the cleaning nozzle of the Kenmore DU2012 is 2 inches wider than that of the DU5092. This means the DU5092 will need more passes to cover the entire room than the DU2012. However, for me, this difference is not that significant, and I am pleased with the cleaning efficiency these two vacs provided.
Design & Convenience
Winner: Kenmore DU5092
Maneuverability
In terms of Kenmore DU5092 vs DU2012 maneuverability, the difference is not much as they both feature a nice long cord of 30 ft., are lightweight, and have swivel steering for easy pushing and moving around corners and multiple surfaces.
However, the Kenmore DU5092 has one thing better than the DU2012: the lift-up canister. I do appreciate this feature of the DU5092 model because its detachable canister makes my stair-cleaning duty easier. The lift-up canister also helps extend the reach when you detach it and carry it with your hand for cleaning above-floor surfaces (ceiling, blinds, fan blades, car furniture, etc.)
On the other hand, one thing I do not really like about these two units is that they are easy to tilt when extending the hose because of their relatively small base and quite stiff hose.
Position of controls
Besides, I find that the suction control on the Kenmore DU5092 is in a more convenient position on the DU2012. Specifically, the suction adjustment valve of the Kenmore DU2012 locates on its back, which I find difficult to reach while vacuuming. Meanwhile, the suction slider of the Kenmore DU5029 is on the hand wand, so I can easily access it in the middle of my cleaning process.
Kenmore DU5092 vs DU2012: Similarities
The biggest similarity between Kenmore DU092 vs DU2012 is their dirt tank capacity and filtration system as well as utility (LED headlights).
Utility
LED headlights
The LED headlights are featured on both Kenmore DU5092 and Kenmore DU2012. The LED headlights will brighten up the dark areas, allowing you to see the dust on floors that you have missed. This feature contributes greatly to improving cleaning efficiency and experience.
Dirt tank & Filtration
Both machines have a large 2 L capacity dirt tank, which allows the machines to hold more dust without having emptied too many times in one cleaning process.
For the filtration, they have HEPA filters and the AllergenSeal technology to trap the dust and allergy agents indies the vacuum body. I really appreciate their filtration system as it helps clean the air emitted from the vacs so that I do not need to wear a mask while vacuuming.
Their filter foams are also washable; therefore, you can rinse them with water, let them dry, and put them back in the vacs for the next use. You can also buy another filter pack and use it while waiting for the old foam to dry after being washed.
