It hasn’t been easy to decide the winner of the Shark NV360 vs Dyson Ball Animal 2 debate because both are very effective vacuum cleaners. But after considering the cleaning performance, design & convenience, dustbin, and other utilities, the worthy winner is Dyson Ball Animal 2.

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 delivers superior performance on all surface types, has a longer power cord and vacuum hose, and comes with more tools and accessories.

Although Shark NV360 ranks 2nd place, I guarantee you this is also a great choice. It also delivers excellent performance on all surface types. It is a little lighter than the winner, and you can use it in a semi-handheld configuration by removing its wand from its body and carrying around its dirt compartment.

Shark NV360 vs Dyson Ball Animal 2: Differences

The final score of the match between Dyson Ball Animal 2 and Shark NV360 was 3-0 for Dyson. Both are effective in removing dirt and pet hair from carpets and hard floors. The former wins as it delivers superior performance and has a more convenient design.

Cleaning Performance

The Winner: Dyson Ball Animal 2

Air-Watts

I don’t want to confuse you when you have to hear me explain the knowledge about air watts. Put simply, the air watt is a useful measurement of vacuum cleaner motor efficiency. Does it mean the higher the air watt is, the better?

In all cases, I am not sure. But it’s true in this case of Shark NV360 vs Dyson Ball Animal 2. With a maximum suction rating of 306 air watts on the Dyson and 245 air watts on the Shark, these upright vacuum cleaners are more than capable of extracting the finest dust particles from shaggy carpeting and rugs. Thanks to higher air watts, Dyson Ball Animal 2 really performs better in all my test.

Bare Floor Performance

First, I tested the performance of these two vacuum cleaners at picking up dirt and debris from bare floors, including hardwood, laminate, and tiles. And this leads to very different outcomes.

Dyson Ball Animal 2 has excellent performance when cleaning bare floors
Dyson Ball Animal 2 has excellent performance when cleaning bare floors

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 provides excellent performance when used on bare floors. It can clean up different kinds of dirt and dust on bare floors without any trouble. According to my tests, it can suck up approximately 93% of large debris and almost 100% of small debris. What an incredible result!

It can easily pick up small things like rice. It can also pick up large debris like cereal, though some can get stuck under the head. The vacuum keeps working well even as the dirt container gets full, which is great when you must clean up many big messes.

On bare floors, the Shark Navigator NV360 also does a good job. It can pick up small debris like rice with ease, but it has trouble with pet hair and bulky debris like cereal since its head can pass over these items without sucking them up. When cleaning bare floors with the brushroll turned off, the brushroll doesn’t move, and large debris can be caught on it.

Carpet Performance

Both of these items are not what you want to get if you have several carpets in your home. You should read the reviews on several websites that tell you that the performance of these two vacuum cleaners on carpets is exceptional. But in fact, my home has some carpets, and my experience when using these two products to vacuum the carpet is really bad.

About the Dyson Ball Animal 2, this vacuum does not perform smoothly on the carpet; rather, it suctions the carpet up. Even on the most basic carpeting, it makes it much more difficult to push the vacuum cleaner. When we tried out a variety of carpet lengths and thicknesses, my wife, who is quite petite, could hardly manage to move it. It works wonderfully on both tile and hardwood floors! but not carpet…

Similar to the Shark NV360 in this test. It is really difficult and heavy to push it on the carpet and it does not steer.

Pet Hair Floor Performance

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 performs exceptionally well while dealing with pet hair on a wide variety of different floor types. It isn’t too difficult to clean the brushroll on this vacuum, but because it isn’t supposed to be taken entirely out of the vacuum, it can be a bit more challenging to remove any tangled hair from it.

The Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe NV360 performs adequately when it comes to removing pet hair, although it is not as effective as a Dyson product in this regard. It has no issue dealing with pet hair on low- or high-pile carpets, but it has a lot more trouble than the Dyson when it comes to removing it away from bare floors.

Design & Convenience

The Winner: Dyson Ball Animal 2

Noise Level

Expecting silent operation from such powerful vacuums is unrealistic. However, after testing, I see that the Shark NV360 is noticeably less noisy than its counterpart, reaching about 78 dB. In the meanwhile, the Dyson registers at about 81 dB.

In any case, the decibel levels that are generated by both of these machines are on the high side While they were running, it was loud enough to completely drown out my nearby conversation.

Maneuverability

The Dyson's ball improves maneuverability
The Dyson’s ball improves maneuverability

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 has decent maneuverability. The vacuum is quite big and weighs 17.35 pounds, making it more difficult to use in tight areas; nevertheless, the ball makes it easy to maneuver. Attaching the floor tool allows you to clean beneath furniture such as tables and couches. For cleaning furniture, you may choose to utilize either the turbo brush or the crevice tool.

The Shark NV360’s ability to turn and maneuver is only average. It weighs 15.96 pounds, which is lower than the weight of the Dyson. The head can turn, which makes it easier to move around obstacles. However, the body of the vacuum is still fairly large, making it more difficult to clean beneath tables and chairs when it is not being used in its semi-handheld ‘Lift-Away’ configuration. This makes it more difficult to fit the vacuum into tight spaces. The vacuum is prone to get caught on tassels, and while its suction release is open, it has the potential to move carpets around.

Range

The Shark NV360’s range isn’t very good. It has a power cord that is fairly long, measuring 25 feet, which enables you to clean large areas without having to switch outlets. However, the length of its hose is relatively short, coming in at only 4 feet, which can be an inconvenience when cleaning high-mounted shelves or other spots that are hard to reach.

The Dyson Ball Animal 2, on the other hand, has an impressive range. Because both the cord and the hose on this vacuum are longer (35 feet and 15 feet, respectively), it is possible to clean large or far-reaching rooms without having to switch outlets. It also has a rather long hose, which, when combined with the fact that it can be converted into a semi-handheld mode, makes it much simpler to clean behind furniture or on top shelves.

Filtration System & Dirt Bin

The Winner: Dyson Ball Animal 2

Dirt Bin

The dustbin capacity of the Shark NV360 is 1.2 dry quarts, while that of the Dyson Ball Animal 2 is 2 dry quarts. As a result, the winner is the second option, which possesses a more capacious dust cup. Additionally, these dirt cups are made of clear plastic and feature full indications, which allow you to know when it is necessary to empty the contents of your vacuum.

You can empty the dirt bin of the Dyson Ball Animal 2 without ever touching the stuff inside
You can empty the dirt bin of the Dyson Ball Animal 2 without ever touching the stuff inside

Both of these vacuums have a simple mechanism that allows for quick and easy dirt ejection with the push of a button. You can empty the dirt bin without ever touching the stuff inside. Just give the container a quick rinse, and you are done! For optimal performance, I advise emptying and cleaning the dirt bin after each usage.

Filter

Because these two machines are bagless vacuums and have washable filters, it minimizes recurring costs. In addition to that, it comes with a HEPA filter that captures allergens as you clean.

In this regard, I have tested the Shark NV360 Navigator and the Dyson Animal Ball 2, and the exhaust ports on both of them indicate that they are equally effective at capturing dust inside the machine.
